Seventh Amulet Dev Log: Brad takes shape, more physical movement and a new ruins area

Brad moves from character model toward a playable protagonist: new shoulder cape and outfit tied to the item system, sharper cloth and hair under Lumen, ragdoll and impact tests, new equipment assets, and a first pass on a new ruins area. Built in Unreal Engine 5.8.

This is a Developer Diary for Tales of Xdripia: The Seventh Amulet. Production continues on Unreal Engine 5.8. Official site: talesofxdripia.com.

This update is about our protagonist. Brad is moving from a character model toward a playable character, with cloth, hair and physics that react to the world around him.

What changed

Brad's new look. Brad now wears a new shoulder cape and an updated outfit. The look is tied into the item system, with its own inventory icon, so what he wears is part of gameplay as well as art.

Cloth, boots and hair. The jacket hem moves with more precise cloth. We fixed the boot soles. His hair reads better under Lumen lighting, especially against backlight.

More physical movement. We are testing ragdoll on Brad, along with climbing over high obstacles and reactions to impacts. All of it runs on a dedicated test path.

Equipment. A new defensive shield and a new gadget are now in Unreal Engine 5.8 as equipment assets. A new sword is in progress.

A new ruins area. We have started the first import and art direction pass on a new ruins area.

Still in progress

  • The new ruins area is at an early first pass. We'll show it once it's ready.
  • The shield, gadget and sword are still being integrated.
  • Physics and animations are still in testing.

Why it matters

A credible protagonist is the base for everything players will do in 3D: exploring, traversing and fighting. Cloth, hair and physics that respond to the world make Brad feel like a character, not a model on a stage. This groundwork supports exploration and combat in The Seventh Amulet.
