This is the Friday Developer Diary for Tales of Xdripia: The Seventh Amulet. It is a first-week report: what landed in the project over the last seven days, drawn from Godot 4.7 Forward+ sources, files modified in that window, docs, git log, and a short note on uncommitted work. There is no comparison to a prior week.
At Arcadian Pixels the weekday Dev Log covers tooling and industry context. Fridays are reserved for concrete game progress on The Seventh Amulet. Official site: talesofxdripia.com.
Viridian Tauri: places on the ground
Between 11 and 12 October we built out several Viridian Tauri locations: Campi Dati (central node and a minor node), the Pianure di Vireon, the Massicci di Klystron, and the Culla del Nexus.
The ground work is not a flat mesh dump. Terrain uses a dedicated shader. Living grass and forest planting come from density maps. Light elevators, proximity-waking globes, reactive light mirrors, and holograms are in place. A minimap and a fullscreen map (toggle M) cover regional navigation.
Materials and prairie response
New materials this pass include megalite, ancient slabs, iridescent glass, a spiral light mirror, and crystal waymarkers. Prairie colour shifts in waves rather than as a static tint, so the plains read differently as you move through them.
Automated walkthroughs
Automated test paths now cover the basics we care about for a region pass: each region opens, each place can be walked on foot, and an island → place → island loop completes without a hard stop. That is not a full playtest suite; it is a gate so a location does not ship into the week as a dead end.
Performance snapshot (11 October)
Frame rates were measured at 1920×1080 on an RTX 2080 Ti:
- Culla del Nexus: 93–97 fps
- Ekyros: 88–101 fps
- Galleria: 104 fps
- Foreste di Syncralia: 72–92 fps
These are working numbers for the current content density on that hardware. They are not platform targets or marketing claims.
Taurion outer landing
On 12 October a visitabile outer landing under the Celestial Toroid went in. Layout:
- Oval court 114 × 150 m
- Four gardens and two water mirrors
- West belvedere with an astrolabe
- East terrace
- North dark-glass threshold with 48 notches
- Four waterfalls
Geometry: 33 meshes, about 93,000 triangles. Day and night screenshots live in the project docs.
Passage into the Toroid interior is not available yet. The landing is an exterior approach, not a finished interior route.
Canon versus level-design names
The Codex entry on Taurion is canonical. The names of the landing-area zones (court, gardens, belvedere, terrace, threshold) are level-design proposals, not canon. Treat them as working labels until the Codex says otherwise.
Shared occlusion camera
On 14 October we landed a shared occlusion helper, camera_cutout: a dither tube that opens obstacles without punching a hole through the floor. It is wired into hd2d_camera.gd and into the Astradune and Velsharion stones. The Taurion test completed with PASS and 0 errors.
That is a readability fix for dense outdoor geometry: the camera soft-opens blocking props so the player stays visible without false floor cuts.
Battle: CTB turn structure
A 9 October commit brought the turn-based battle layer into shape along CTB lines (comparable to Final Fantasy X): Limits and Celestials, a boss camera, and timed hits. Battle art for Azura, Xyrrathos, Verdolo, and the amulets is in the same pass.
Other 9 October commits
Alongside battle, the same day landed:
- Verdalia — apples, mill, enchanted moss
- Sablithar Dune-Fold
- Vigil Ninefold
- Collectible comics
- Arkades pod racing v6 — career mode, four circuits, cups, workshop, and launch start
These are committed studio progress for the week, not speculative features.
Still in progress (uncommitted)
The following sits in the working tree and is not presented as released:
- New 3D body actions and character polish (Brad, Dripia, Flo, Hog, Jim)
- Battle animations
- Audio (music and regional ambients)
battle.gdwork- New QA rules
Expect those in a later diary once they are committed and testable as shipped slices.
What this week actually means
The first week on the ground was about place density and systems that keep places readable: Viridian locations with density-driven vegetation and interactive light props, a measurable fps band on known hardware, a Taurion exterior that respects Codex canon while keeping layout names provisional, a shared camera cutout that survived its Taurion test, and a CTB battle baseline with character battle art. Racing, Verdalia, and the collectible comic path rode in on the same 9 October commit window.
Next diaries will track what leaves the uncommitted pile and what opens next—starting with anything that turns the Toroid approach into a real interior path, when that work is actually done.
Follow the Arcadian Pixels Dev Log for weekday tooling notes, and this Friday slot for The Seventh Amulet build reports.
